The Two New Teams in IPL 2022

Final auctions for IPL 2022 ended on 13th February, 2022 with all the different franchises using their match and science to purchase desired players. Rules of IPL Retention 2022

The rules of IPL retention 2022 are very different from the rules of IPL retention 2021. They go like this:

  • A team is allowed to keep just three Indians, either capped or uncapped and two foreign players with the total number of player retentions not going beyond four.
  • According to conditions, team management will have the power of either retaining three Indian and one foreign player or two Indian and two foreign players.
  • BCCI has clearly mentioned that teams cannot have more than two uncapped players.
  • The two new teams in the IPL this season can choose one foreign and two Indian players before the commencement of the auction for IPL 2022.
  • The teams will also not get any Right to Match cards for IPL 2022 auction this year.

Retained Players IPL 2022

Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals have retained the maximum of four players permitted to be retained while Rajasthan Royals has retained three players including Sanju Samson, the captain.

As per rules of retention for IPL 2022, the current franchises could retain just four players and not more than that. Salary cap for the teams was 90 crores with the deductions being applied as per number of retentions. So, a total of Rs. 42 crores was deducted from the salary cap of teams retaining four players. For the teams retaining three players, the deduction was Rs. 33 crores; for two players it was Rs. 24 crores and for 1 player, the deduction from the salary cap was 14 crore. For teams retaining uncapped players, the deduction from the salary cap was Rs. 4 crores.

List of Retained Players IPL 2022

As was quite evident, MS Dhoni was retained by Chennai Super Kinds for Rs. 12 crores along with Moeen Ali for Rs. 8 crores, Ravindra Jadeja for Rs. 16 crores and Ruturaj Gaikwad for Rs. 6 crores.
